Christmas Break in London

Our team of international volunteers have enjoyed a well deserved Christmas break! Some of them went abroad to celebrate it with family or friends, but two of them Riri, based in Newcastle, and Mitchell, based in Middlesborough, spent it in east London, with the sisters of the Wanstead community.

The sisters — VA, Carolyn, Marianne, and Sylvia — were delighted to welcome the volunteers. They shared a schedule of daily community activities the volunteers could choose to join, including prayer in the chapel, parish Mass followed by tea with the parishioners, and shared meals. The entertainment was simple but meaningful: walks in the forest and board games in the evening (sometimes followed by one nightcap… or two, we hear!).

“The best Christmas I have had away from my family!”

Sr Carolyn and sr Francesca took the volunteers on a couple of outings to explore London: Leicester Square and lunch in China Town, and a visit of Kew Gardens.

Riri and Michell were deeply touched by the love and attention shown by the community and enjoyed the homely and relaxed atmosphere: “The best Christmas I have had away from my family!” was Mitchell’s comment.

The whole gang is now back in Newcastle and Middlesborough, ready to start a new term of work and fun activities with children and colleagues at Kids Kabin.

Thank you Wanstead sisters for your hospitality!
