Newcastle, Middlesbrough

The main mission of the volunteer will be to work full time at Kids Kabin – a children’s activity centre, founded by the Assumption Sisters. The volunteers use creative arts and lead practical hands-on projects to give children aged 8-12 living in disadvantaged communities a chance to achieve. They work with schools during the day, and in the afternoons, evening, and school holidays they run creative and practical workshops on the streets using innovative mobile workshops at the main centre and in community venues across Newcastle and Middlesbrough. They also run wild camps and bike rides in Northumberland and the Scottish borders. Volunteers help provide the wide variety of creative activities and the support that individual kids need to turn their ideas into reality.

Volunteering at Kids Kabin was much more than I thought it would look like, it was no ordinary volunteering, it had a special touch to it. The programme is designed in a way that you not only serve but you grow as an individual in different areas as you serve.
