Description

AMA volunteers in the United States work as partners in ministry with the Religious of the Assumption, serving in
the programs at the Assumption Center in Worcester or the Casa Maria Eugenia in Chaparral. In Worcester, volunteers live at the Assumption Center, some ministries take place at St. Peter’s Church, and include work with immigrants, children, and adults. In Chaparral, volunteers live at Casa Maria Eugenia not far from the Sister’s home and ministries include: tutoring at the Middle School, parish involvement, and other projects opportunities like welcoming refugees, prison ministry, free legal aid projects, general presence in the Chaparral community.

Duration

One year (from the USA), we can also host international volunteers on a short-term basis (1 to 6 months).

Skills & Languages

At least 18, male or female. Desire to live in a Christian community, willing to understand and be in solidarity with immigrants, show openness, enthusiasm, a love of people, willing to broaden their talents. Have a good grasp of conversational English; if applying for Chaparral, must have at least a basic understanding of Spanish and willingness to learn more. An ability to work alone and in a team; self-motivation and direction; an ability to adapt and integrate into new cultures and ways of living. Interest in peace and justice issues.
